Jonah Points Us to Jesus?

As I peruse through the Bible, I'm continually amused and taken by the irony God has planted throughout His Story. It puts a grin on my face - that's my God - intentionally intertwining specific people and places to reveal Himself to all generations.

A skilled author will conclude their novel with a phenomenal ending, pulling everything together, giving each twist, turn and surprise ultimate meaning. God did it first. So many stories in the Old Testament foreshadow the things to come. It's as though God was revealing himself before Jesus ever set foot on our planet. One Story, 66 books, each flawlessly preserved through the ages for a reason - they're all tied together.

What about Jonah?  What in Jonah's story points us to Jesus? Was God using Jonah to reveal another segment of his grand plan? Are you curious yet?  It's worth getting excited over.  Join us this Sunday, February 5 at 9 a.m. as Pastor Chris Carr takes us through Jonah 1:17 for "Salvation Belongs to the Lord!"

We hope to see you there!

You Can Run, but...

"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there."
- Psalm 139:7
-8

We cannot hide from God. All efforts to escape from his presence are made in vain. It's hopeless to run and pointless to hide.

This is a truth we ought to rejoice over; we cannot outrun his grasp, out wit his plans or out-sin his grace. I don't understand it: a love so passionate and pure that he would forgive our dumbest deeds, pursuing us in our rebellion; but I know it's true.

Too often, I flee from the hands that desire to mold me into the person I was created to be. What will it take for us to learn that we can run, but we cannot hide from God? His grace is relentless; as he pursued Jonah, he will pursue you.

Join us this Sunday, January 29 at 9 a.m. as Pastor Chris Carr takes us through Jonah 1:1-16 introducing our new series "Jonah: A Story of God's Relentless Grace" with "You Can Run but You Cannot Hide."

The Sanctity of Human Life

For you created my inmost being;you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. - Psalm 139:13-14

For years, I've been fascinated by shows such as the Antiques Roadshow, American Pickers, Pawn Stars and the likes. In addition to the history and mystery of it all, I find it incredibly exciting to learn the value of an item.

All too often, an item will turn up that I immaturely determine is a worthless piece of junk; it's inevitably worth a small fortune, further proving that only the experts can appraise the true value of an item.

When the value of human life is in question, the only one who can accurately appraise its worth is the Creator: God. He is the expert; He authored our anatomy, knitting us together vein by vein!  We are His people, His creation, fashioned in His image for His glory. He determines our worth, no one else.

Join us this Sunday, January 22 at 9 a.m. as Pastor Chris Carr takes us through Genesis and Psalms for  "The Sanctity of Human Life."

7 Words Conclusion

"Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near."  - Revelation 1:3

For eight Sundays we've studied the letter to the churches of Revelation. We've identified seven things Christ desires from his church: love, faith, discipline, purity, life, endurance and zeal.

What does this mean for us, Harmony? The Word of God is living and active!  Revelation 1-3 is as relevant to us today as it was the day it was revealed to John on the island of Patmos.  God is undeniably passionate about his church: past, present and future. What does God desire from us? Where does this take us in the future?  What are Harmony's next steps in response to Revelation 1-3?

Join us this Sunday, January 15 at 9 a.m. as Pastor Chris Carr wraps up our "7 Words" series with Revelation 1:3 for a message you won't want to miss "7 Words: Conclusion."

We hope to see you there!

7 Words: Zeal

"Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me." - Revelation 3:19-20

Thus far, Christ has been very clear of what he desires in his church: love, faith, discipline, purity, life, and endurance. Christ's letter to the church in Laodicea is no different, his message is direct: lose the apathy and get zealous!

The church in Laodicea lacked passion. Their indifference and complacency were repulsive in God's eyes.

How can we avoid being an apathetic church?  Join us this Sunday, January 8th at 9AM to find out as Pastor Chris Carr takes us through Revelation 3:14-22 for "7 Words: Zeal."

We hope to see you there!

One Thing...

There are no regrets in choosing Jesus above all else.

As we reach the end of our year, we inevitably evaluate what we've done with the last 365 days. We rewind and replay; some months were filled with laughter, others pain, others surprise and others regret.

Consider your regrets: have you ever regretted following Jesus? Have you ever regretted listening to the instruction of the Holy Spirit?  Are his ways not pure and upright? Are his words not edifying? Are his plans not adventuresome, radical and life-changing? Is he not trustworthy and true? Is he not the author of forgiveness and restoration? How could we ever regret obeying God? He is worth choosing above all else!

What if you chose Jesus above all else in the days ahead? What would your life look like in 2012?  Join us this Sunday, January 1 at 10AM as Pastor Caleb Hastings takes us through various scripture for "One Thing: Choosing Jesus Above All Else."

We hope to see you there, bring a friend!

The Night that Changed Everything.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6

Upon the birth of Jesus Christ, everything changed.  No longer would we wait for our Messiah; for the promised one had been born.  The image of an invisible God came to earth; and to think, Jesus was given to us!

Who could have known? Who could have known that this baby would turn our world upside down. Who could have known this little body would one day defeat death with a bloodied core and nail pierced hands?  Who could have known that this infant was our Creator God in the flesh?  Who could have known that through the humble birth of this child, our sacrifice, the Holy Lamb of God had entered our world to save his people from their sins?

The heavens knew.  The angels rejoiced; Satan and the demons shuddered. For this baby, the Messiah, would save the souls of God's children once and for all! That is Christmas: a grand celebration of the Emmanuel, God with us! How will you share this world-changing news with family and friends this Christmas? We have so much to celebrate and so much to share.

Join us either this Saturday, December 24th at 5PM or Sunday, December 25 at 10AM as Jeremy takes us through Isaiah 9:2,6 for "The Night that Changed Everything."  The services will be identical; we hope to see you there!

Merry Christmas!
